Euro Trip : Day 10 & 11 (Dresden & Gottingen)

When we woke up in the morning, we realized that we had just 2 more days to go. We were sad for a moment but then geared up to explore the rest of the places in our bucket list. We had a good breakfast and started our drive to Dresden. We wanted to explore the beautiful baroque architectural town of Europe. This small town was destroyed during the European bombing and was later reconstructed in style of former city. The city now looks lively, beautiful and historic.

As we walked towards the Old City square, the first building which caught our eye was Zwinger. It is one of the most famous architectural building and houses the Alte Meister art gallery & amazing world famous porcelain collections. The fountain at the entrance adds to the beauty of the building. As we moved further, we came across ’Frauenkirche’, the church of lady. It is no doubt the oldest building out here and a masterpiece. The dome here is the largest architectural dome in Europe. After the destruction in 1945 it regained its life again in 2005, after 60 long years. Its now called the monument of peace.

While taking a walk around the old town we noticed a Cathedral, Katholische Hofkirche which was a combination of Roman and baroque architecture. Its told that the heart of the King Augustus II is burried underneath this building in a copper case.  We moved ahead to see the much heard ‘Brühl’s Terrace of the art museum Albertinum. It is called the balcony of Europe. The gardens were very pretty but what I would appreciate more was the fact that it was high above the shore of river Elbe. Dresden is filled with history. I cannot forget our walk in the oldest part (800 years old) of Dresden Neustadt. The coffee shops, small market places and art adds character to the streets.

Apart from the small little cafes, restaurants and pretty streets one thing that most attracted me was Gänseliesel the goose girl. She is the most kissed girl in the world. Every student who completes doctrate from George August University Göttingen, brings her flowers, climbs the tower and kisses her. (how lucky!)

Mild temperatures, beautiful landscapes and the shades of copper, gold and orange, that was just perfect way to end our trip. We drove to Frankfurt airport next day early morning along with the beautiful memories.
